Hello folks, today I'm going to walk you through a recent card make where with a few colours, a sentient and some cute characters, you can make your own quick and cheerful card. The twist is going to be by adding depth in a different way than just using those 3D Foam pads and I'll give you an easy tip to help.
To start, I cut my white cardstock approximately to my 6x6" card size. I put down some Mustard Seed Distress Oxide first, then randomly applied some carved pumpkin in a few areas and over those areas I added Abandoned Coral to give a gradient effect.
I carefully placed the Time for Tea Designs Starry Sky Stencil over my blended cardstock and taped in place with Low Tac Tape. I then blended Dusty Concord and Chipped Saphire Distress Oxide through the stencil.
I simply cut down my cardstock to the size I wanted for my card using my Fiskars Trimmer. This time I wanted to cut it down slightly smaller that the original car to give it a clean white border.
Using the same Dusty Concord and Chipped Sapphire Distress Oxide, I applied a random blend of the two on a scrap piece of white cardstock.
I then placed the Big Thank You So Much Die from Mama Elephant down onto my cardstock taped it into place with low tac tape and placed it through my Sizzix Foldaway Cutting Machine.
Take care when releasing the die to keep all the negative pieces as you'll be need them soon. Here I have placed all those negative piece back into place ready for the next step.
Place the blended scrap piece behind the large outer piece and glue in place. Then trim down the excess to bring it back to its original size.
TOP TIP: By gently and carefully placing back the positive cut part of the sentiment onto the card (Do not stick this part down), using it as a template you can glue all the negative pieces into place and remove the positive piece once you're done.
Using the same Big Thank You So Much Die, I cut out a white version for the top. Here I'm just showing the effect its going to have but I haven't glued it in place yet. I generally glue everything down at the same time once I have all the other elements of the card prepared.
I stamp out a few characters form Gerda Steiner's - Hoppiness set in Memento Ink on white cardstock.
I colour in the cute characters with my Copic Makers and fussy cut each one out. I'm not one for fussy cutting usually but these characters had a fairly simple outline to follow, so I didn't really mind.
I wanted to add a little something extra to the sentiment, so I used the Clear Wink of Stella over all of it to add a bit of bling to the card. Wink of Stella is like using a liquid glitter that dries incredibly quickly, almost in the way that alcohol pens do.
To bring the card all together, I used Cosmic Shimmer acrylic glue to stick down the sentiment just off to the left to give a drop shadow feel and used 3D foam pads on all the characters to give them a bit of height and raised them off the card. Then apply your work to the front of your card using double-sided sticky tape.
And here's the finished card. Although it was simple to create using the traditional stamp and colour elements, It was a clever way to use a recessed shadow for the sentiment to add that dimension I think we all remember to bring the features closer using 3D foam pads but forget about going in towards the card for that added depth.
